Mairena del Alcor “Concurso de Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena”

The “Concurso de Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena” in Mariena del Alcor is one of the oldest festivals in the province of Seville dedicated to the art of flamenco.  Attracting thousands of people, the festival name pays homage to Antonio Mairena, one of the great Masters of cante jondo style of flamenco singing.   The venue in Mairena del Alcor is the Auditorio de la Casa Palacio, the former palace and country home of the Duques de Arco.  The 15th century palace has been renovated to include a five thousand seat auditorium which proves to be an excellent backdrop for the event.  The festival celebrated its 50th year in 2011 by honoring flamenco greats Calixto Sánchez, Manolo Franco, and Javier Barón.
