About the Show

Los Tarantos Barcelona was founded in 1963, making it one of Barcelona's oldest flamenco venues. Located in the Ciutat Vella quarter of the city, today the Los Tarantos is known for its nightly performances featuring a new generation of Catalan flamenco artists. For those who wish to enjoy a short, quality flamenco show at a reasonable price, Los Tarantos is an excellent place to do so. The establishment holds 3 or 4 nightly flamenco shows, with duration of approximately 30 minutes for each performance. The affordable shows attract a large international crowd as well as local flamenco aficionados.

Inside Los Tarantos includes a full service bar, as well as a seating area with tables and chairs which surround a small stage, offering good views from almost any vantage point. The artists who regularly grace the stage at Los Tarantos include flamenco singers such as Alba Carmona and Sara Flores, both of whom regularly perform in some of the most important flamenco festivals in Spain. Dancers include Nacho Blanco, Yolanda Cortés, Iván Alcalá and Iñaki Márquez, the latter considered by many critics to be one of the best dancers of the new generation of Catalan flamenco. Guitar players include Eduardo and Juan Cortes, while percussionist David Dominguez, often divides his time between playing with both flamenco and jazz groups.

The club's history dates back to the early sixties, although its renaissance was in the early nineties when Los Tarantos was renovated and a new generation of flamenco artists began to be featured on a regular basis. During the first ten years the club attracted a wide variety of talent, from established artists to up and coming performers. The list of artists at Los Tarantos during these days is quite impressive, with names such as Duquende, Miguel Poveda, Montse Cortés, and Rafael Riqueni. Later came Pepe Habichuela, Paco Cepero, Tomasito, Eva la Yerbabuena and Niña Pastori. In recent years the flamenco sessions have featured toque, cante y baile (flamenco guitar playing, singing and dancing) by some of the best local emerging flamenco talent, giving you a chance to see the artists up close at the beginning of their careers.

Reviews

Wow, it’s fabulous! I don’t know how my 45 minutes went away. There were a guitar player, a singer and two flamenco dancers and their fashions heated all the people. It’s really one of must-to-go’s in Barcelona. If you wanna take front seats, you have to line up 20-30 min in advance.
It lasts approximately 40 min and was a great experience. The performances of the singer and the dancers were highly appreciated. Since it is small inside, I recommend you make a reservation before going.
If you want a cheap taste of flamenco then this is a great place to start. Really good fun and like much of Barcelona nobody is getting ripped off.
Very talented group of dance/singer/artists. They were very impressive! We felt the show was a bit short though. It's mainly aimed at tourists and it looks like they've got it all super well managed to get as many shows as possible. A great experience all in all!
The oldest tablao in Barcelona situated in Plaça Reial. It’s a 40 min show. We attended the show on 7.30 pm Monday. The show was amazing. I was amazed by 4 things - the vocalist had a folk voice - clean and strong; the guitarist didn’t miss a note and could just play flamenco like his cup of tea; of course, the dancers were so mesmerising- their taps were so expressive; and finally the combination of all of them created something magical - the dancers danced to the notes of the guitarist. The place is small with 90 seats. Not so crowded on weekdays but weekends can get very busy. So would recommend to reach there 15 min earlier to have a seat. Definitely recommend!
The guitarist and singer were great. The costumes of the dancers though weren’t really the typical flamenco costumes you would hope to see. I feel a red dress or flower in the hair would have made all the difference (like the picture in their leaflets). It was just one man and one woman dancing. I feel would have been nice to see them dance together more. Was hoping to see the fans and castanets, which were not there. The show also felt very short. Overall we were a little disappointed. And now seeing the photos of other people’s experiences makes me feel a little like we were cheated. Maybe the night we went was just an off night? (Costume issues, dancers sick, etc.?)
