A Flamenco Show in Kelipé
Kelipé is a cultural center as well as a flamenco agency located in the center of Malaga, Spain, close to the Plaza Constitución, Museo Thyssen and Teatro Cervantes. The objective of Kelipé is to share an authentic flamenco experience with the public at a reasonable price. The intimate and familiar flamenco performances include guitar, dance, song and the cajón (percussion), with invited artists from time to time. The founders of Kelipé have their roots in Jerez and Malaga, with many years of experience in organizing and performing authentic flamenco shows.
Kelipé offers flamenco shows every Friday and Saturday, while for groups of 20 or more people it is also possible to organize private shows during the week. The shows include between three and six artists and last approximately one hour. A drink is included in the ticket price. The cultural center also offers different workshops for flamenco dance and guitar, in keeping with their philosophy of bringing a true flamenco experience to the public.
The performers and founders of Kelipé live and breathe flamenco, and have dedicated their lives to this art. Manuel Gutierrez Martin "Juanma el Canastero", was born in Malaga to a Gypsy family where flamenco played an important part in his youth. "Juanma el Canastero" has collaborated with many well-known flamenco artists such as La Cañeta de Malaga, Estrella Morente, Rancapina, Fernando Soto, El Gallo, El Trini and others. "El Indio", Shane González, was born into a Spanish and Native-American family in California (USA). His Cherokee and Andalusian (Jerez) roots have influenced his musical development from an early age, when he first began to play the flamenco guitar. In 1997 he created the flamenco fusion group "Cerro Negro", which for four years was one of the best know groups of this flamenco genre in the states. "Yedra", Susana Alarcón Manzano, was born in Barcelona from a Gypsy family where she continued the family flamenco tradition of her grandmother, "La Chata". She has studied and performed with some of the most famous flamenco dancers and masters such as Tani, Toleo, Javier Latorre and Juana Amaya.![]()
