Founded in 1966 by Don José Luis Nuñez de Prado, Los Gallos is one of Seville’s oldest tablaos and perhaps one of the best settings: a renovated historic home in the Plaza de Santa Cruz. The venue is small and elegant, and puts to use the rustic and traditional architecture of the original building as a backdrop for traditional flamenco performances. The establishment remains family owned and operated, as guests will note in the warm welcome they receive. Entrance to the two nightly shows include a drink, and performances feature twelve artists.

With a privileged location, Los Gallos has and continues to attract some of the best talent on the circuit, providing a venue for well known performers as well as new and promising talent. In over forty years, the tablao has welcomed a long list of artists such as Merche Esmeralda, Cristina Hoyos, La Paquera de Jerez, Manolo Marin, Farruco, Matilde Coral Chocolate, Naranjito de Triana and many more. And over the forty years Los Gallos has maintained a strict dedication to pure and traditional flamenco.

Our last visit to Los Gallos included a pre-show stroll through the streets of Santa Cruz, with a stop at Las Teresas for tapas. In spring time there is perhaps no better location than Plaza Santa Cruz when the roses, jasmine and dama de noche are in full bloom. While the length of the show was longer than most, the time seemed to fly by as we were caught up in the performances. The acoustics in Los Gallos are excellent, our seats were good and the atmosphere very comfortable. During the short breaks between numbers, the artists often rest at a table in the corner. We were also able to chat briefly with one of the guitarists who played outside in the Plaza Santa Cruz while waiting for the next performance, who has been playing for over 15 years at Los Gallos.
