Held every two years as with the Bienal Flamenco in Sevilla. The Bienal Flamenco in Malaga is held on the odd years, with the next event to be held in 2013 around the month of September. The event attracts some of the best flamenco artists in the Spain for a month of activities in the city and nearby towns.

The festival mixes the culture of flamenco, featuring some of Spain's most well known performers, with tourism in the region: some of Malaga province's most attractive towns host several performances, including Antequera, Nerja, Fuengirola, and Ronda. Aside from the main performances, there are always parallel events such as art exhibits, as well as performances in flamenco bars and cultural associations.
